Anorexia Nervosa Disorder:
  • starving yourself
  • occurs in teens and young women
  • males rarely diagnosed
  • skipping meals

  • Greek word for anorexia means "loss of appetite"
Bulimia Nervosa Disorder:
  • Greek word for bulimia means "hunger of an ox"
  • binge eating diet (eat excessively, then throw up)
  • binging will usually take place two times a week
  • effects teens and young women
  • 10% of men are bulimic
  • being anorexic leads to being bulimic
  • type 1 bulimia: purging (when a person binges, then throws up)
  • type 2 bulimia: non-purging (when a person binges, then overly exercises)
Difference between the two:
  • anorexics are a low body weight
  • bulimics are a normal body weight
Similarity:
  • both disorders can cause many health complications
